VTU Syllabus Structure Overview
VTU follows an eight-semester (4-year) engineering structure for B.E / B.Tech programs.
- 1st & 2nd Semester – Common foundation subjects (Basic Sciences & Engineering Fundamentals)
- 3rd to 8th Semester – Branch-specific core and elective subjects
From the 3rd semester onwards, the VTU syllabus differs based on engineering branch such as Computer Science Engineering (CSE), Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE), Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and other streams.

Is 1st semester syllabus same for all branches?
Semester 1 and 2 subjects are stream-based but largely foundational. From 3rd semester onwards syllabus becomes fully branch specific.
