Convert Laptop into a WiFi Hotspot

Are you thinking of buying a WiFi router for your tablet, mobile and laptop? Have you thought of using your laptop as a Wifi hotspot? Is this posssible?

People who are using data cards, broadband, wired connection to connect internet from their laptop can use the same connection to connect to mobile and tablet or any Wifi enabled devices.

Turn your ordinary laptop into a wifi hotspot by just following the below steps. Video of the same will be posted shortly.

Step 1: Connect your datacard or dongle or broadband connection to you laptop.

Step 2: Switch on\Enable WiFi in your laptop.

Step 3: Now go to RUN in start menu and search for cmd.

Step 4: Right click on the command prompt and select "Run As administrator"

Step 5: In the command prompt type the below command and press enter key
netsh wlan show drivers



Step 6: Verify that you see the below text in the command prompt. If this is not visible then your laptop doesnt support wifi hotspot.
Hosted Network Support : Yes

Step 7: Now type type the below command and press the enter key.
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=knowledgeadda key=password

Here ssid is the name of the network, key is the password for accessing the wifi from other devices.

Should see below message once you run the command:
The hosted network mode has been set to allow.
The SSID of the hosted network has been successfully changed.
The user key passphrase of the hosted network has been successfully changed.

Step 8: Now type the below command and press enter key in command prompt.
netsh wlan start hostednetwork

Should see the below message:
The hosted network started.

Step 9: Now go to "open Network and Sharing center" in control panel window. You will see two connections active

Step 10: Go to the properties of the datacard or broadband connection in the window, in the properties dialog go to "Sharing" tab.

Step 11: Check the checkbox "Allow other network users to connect through this computer connection" and in the dropdown below select the name of the newly create connection. Click Apply and close all the dialogs.

Now you can turn on the wifi in your mobile and try connecting it to the newly create connection by giving the password as per step 7. Enjoy browsing on multiple device without spending a single rupee. :)
